"Error: Please Press Shutter Release Button Again"?

I was shooting with my Nikon D40x SLR and I go to take a picture when the shutter made a very short resonance.

On the screen I get an error message dictum:
"Error: Please Press Shutter Release Button Again" but doing so doesn't achieve anything.

I've tried removing the battery, card, lens, etc. Nothing. Still win an error.
