Answers: You can't match the resolution of 35mm motion picture until you get to about 14 mega pixels. That one said, if all you want is pictures no bigger than 4x6, nearly any camera with 7MP or better will do.
Many Sony cameras use Zeiss lenses but generate sure it says "Zeiss", there are a quantity of them that use "Sony" lenses.
I bought a DSC-S60 in 2005 which is a measly 4 MP, but with the Zeiss lens and the markedly short shutter lag, it was a worthy replacement for the wife's T4 for point and shooting.
Unfortunately, a reduced amount of and fewer point and shoot cameras have optical viewfinders. They want to reserve the maximum square footage within the back for the LCD screen and you see everyone shooting pictures at arm's length.
Check Steve's Digicam for reviews. He tend to include shutter lag in his reviews as resourcefully as showing full resolution sample shots. (huge files).
BTW, I do lug around a big DSLR, but still like to hold a small point and shoot that is pocketable and I still have the T4. Source(s): http://www.steves-digicams.com/
