What is the cheaper alternative to the Canon EOS 20D SLR Digital Camera?
I've had the 10D recommended repeatedly but I see it is no longer available. The 20D runs $2000 with lens. I'd similar to to spend $8OO-$1100.
Can someone recommend an alternative to the 20D in that price range?

Answers: The 20d is not $2000. I don't know why, but Amazon.com has really soaring prices for old cameras. For example, it listed the Nikon D70S (midrange model, 4 years old) for in the order of $1700, but I got it for $300 off craigslist. You can receive the 20d for about 1/4 of price listed on Amazon. Look on Ebay and craigslist for righteous prices. The 20d is discontinued now and not carried by many stores. If you want a more recent high-end Canon camera, the sequels to the 20d are the 30d, 40d, and immediately the new 50d.

The 40D is the pick of the current bunch, in practice if not in print.
Canon also do a more consumer orientated range in the unorthodox xsi & xs (known as the 450D and 1000D in some markets) these would both be superior to the 20D at a cost that won't break the bank.
If you entail the better build quality, the weather sealing and the faster frame rate later the 40D is the one to go for.
What on globe are you talking about?, the 20D be discontinued years ago and sells on eBay for about $500 or smaller quantity!! (where on earth did you get the perception they are $2000??)

Do not bother with the 10D, lovely cameras but difficult to find one in this day and age with a low shutter count and they are incompatible with EF-S lenses.

Additional: That must be mistake, the price is completely wrong. I also mind that it is not Amazons price, it is 'Wall Street Photo's' price, selling through Amazon. You can buy a 50D and 70-200mm f/4 L lens for that price. Forget about the 20D completely, it is either a typo or they are trying to rip somebody rotten. look at the 40D or the 50D, the price the 40D is going for now is excellent, check out B&H for better prices (and 100% trustworthy)
